Genevieve Macfarlane, partner at the Law Offices of Stevens Palmer, LLC, has been appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB), an organization that advocates for the growth and development of the equine industry in Maryland.
With a law practice specializing in real estate, land use and zoning, and equine-related legal matters, Macfarlane brings both professional expertise and a personal passion for the equine industry to her new role. As a lifelong equestrian and an active member of the Wicomico Hunt Club, Macfarlane has a deep connection to Maryland’s equine community and will work to further support the state's horse industry through her appointment to the MHIB.
The Maryland Horse Industry Board, established in 1984, works to promote and expand the horse industry in Maryland. The board’s efforts include supporting policies that foster growth in the equine sector, advocating for regulatory changes, and ensuring that the industry continues to contribute significantly to Maryland’s agricultural economy. With its strong focus on education, research, and outreach, the MHIB is instrumental in maintaining Maryland’s position as one of the top states for the horse industry in the United States.
Macfarlane, who is also the President of the Queen Anne’s County Bar Association, has focused her legal career on real estate, land use, and equine law issues. Her appointment to the Maryland Horse Industry Board reflects her continued commitment to supporting both her legal community and Maryland’s equestrian heritage. Here at Stevens Palmer, LLC and Bay East Title, LLC., our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the Corona virus (COVID-19) here in Maryland and around the world.
At Stevens Palmer and Bay East Title the health and safety of our employees, clients and customers is extremely important to us. As such, we have implemented our business continuity plan which will allow us to maintain the health of our employees and clients as well as continue our exemplary legal and real estate closing services.
The Governor has provided that the legal industry (including real estate title companies) are essential services. As such, our office remains open and fully operational, but subject to social distancing, reduced office staff through the use of home offices and technology, and eliminating in-office meetings except as may be absolutely necessary. All mediations have been postponed or cancelled until further notice. Because much of the staff is working remotely, email is the most efficient form of communication for the time being.
Real estate settlements will continue for those that are scheduled. Others may be scheduled based upon contractual obligations and lender requirements. One of our attorneys will conduct closings. The Settlement Conference Room will be disinfected before and after each settlement. We ask that only necessary parties appear for settlement, i.e. those who need to sign the documents. Real estate agents, loan brokers and other family members should not attend any closings.
We are happy to say, while this is not business as usual, we are still conducting business effectively, and we continue to strive to meet our client and customer needs with the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
